About FemTouch for Women’s Wellness
FemTouch is a non-surgical treatment for vaginal health that applies the innovative powers of CO2 fractional lasers for addressing issues such as vaginal dryness, vaginitis, or vulvovaginal atrophy. Fractional CO2 laser treatments have successfully been in use in the cosmetic world as the gold standard for a wide range of skin treatments including fine lines, age spots, and scars. With FemTouch, the healing and remodeling powers of the fractional CO2 laser are employed to improve vaginal health.
How Does FemTouch for Women’s Wellness Work?
The FemTouch is based on a non-invasive laser technology that was first developed in the 90s. It has been effective for skin treatments such as facial rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, and acne. The science behind CO2 laser systems revolves around using light energy to trigger healing reactions in the skin. CO2 lasers treatments pulse light at 10,600 nm (nanometers) in wavelength which is a wavelength specifically calibrated to be absorbed by water in skin tissue. When the laser energy is absorbed, the water in the tissues quickly reaches a boiling point which helps to evaporate older tissues. Some of the heat that is absorbed invigorates deeper skin layers, triggering a coagulation reaction and homeostasis.
Fibroblasts in the treated areas are sparked into action resulting in collagen production and growth factor activation. In layman’s terms, the heating energy of the CO2 laser signals your body’s natural healing and growth processes to restore and replace the internal lining and mucosal tissues. The result of this reaction is a restored functionality and regrowth of the vaginal canal.
Studies have shown that many negative symptoms such as itching, irritation, dryness, and incontinence are correlated with vaginal lubrication. These symptoms can be problematic enough that patients who do experience them tend to avoid sexual activity as a result. Further research has demonstrated that fractional CO2 lasers are effective in addressing lubrication and vulvovaginal atrophy. Vaginal lubrication comes from various structures like the cervix, Bartholin’s glands and within the vagina itself. Fibroblasts in vaginal tissue also play a role in overall lubrication activity. CO2 lasers are known to trigger increased fibroblast activity, resulting in collagen renewal and synthesis of important compounds such as glycosaminoglycans, glycoproteins, and hydrating compounds.
After treatment with the Lumenis FemTouch, patients have reported an improved sexual experience and a high degree of satisfaction. Women with symptoms such as dryness and irritation and vaginal atrophy, or other common post-menopausal issues often find relief although results do vary.
In practical terms, the Lumenis FemTouch treatment is fast and convenient. The treatment is also incredibly efficient, achieving significant improvements in as few as three sessions. A single treatment can take as little as ten minutes, and there is no need for extensive preparation or downtime.
FemTouch vs. Labiaplasty
While FemTouch is a non-surgical procedure that requires minimal downtime and provides satisfying results for vaginal wellness, other surgical options exist as well.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that addresses the outward appearance of the labia minora, which are the inner lips of the vagina. Labiaplasty results in the reduction of size and shape of a labia minora that is too large or stretched. For women who have experienced irritation or physical discomfort in this area, the labiaplasty may be more appropriate.
Good candidates for the Lumenis FemTouch are women in good overall health who are experiencing symptoms such as vaginal dryness, vulvovaginal atrophy, incontinence, or irritation during intercourse.

The FemTouch Treatment
Your experience with the FemTouch Treatment may differ depending on your specific symptoms and needs.
On the day of the treatment session, you will be awake and resting comfortably in a private treatment area.
A sterile, FemTouch applicator head is inserted into the vaginal canal and the fractional CO2 laser targets the inner tissues in a 360-degree pattern. The applicator is moved in an up and down motion to ensure that each section of the canal is treated.
The 360-degree pattern ensures that the CO2 laser application is effectively applied in all directions for optimal results. Some patients report a gentle, warm sensation during the procedure. The process can be completed in as little as ten minutes or even less. One of the advancements of the FemTouch system is that it offers custom energy density levels. This gives us the capability to address different issues at different tissue densities more accurately. Higher energy density levels offer deeper penetration and are more effective for thicker mucosa layers. The system is specially calibrated to achieve adequate energy penetration without affecting the lamina muscularis underneath. For safety, the energy level is capped at 12.5 mjs to avoid penetrating beyond 600 microns.
Recovery and Results
This is a non-surgical technology involving no needles, incisions or anesthesia. You will be back on your feet as soon as the procedure is over. Some patients have reported mild itchiness near the treatment area; in cases such as this, the physician can provide a soothing gel.
You can return to your routine daily activities as soon as the procedure is complete, but it’s generally advised that you avoid sexual activity for at least 72 hours afterward. For best results, patients should undergo about three treatment sessions spaced more than a month apart. Improvements to the vaginal canal may be noticeable after just one session, but the best results are seen after the second or third.
Pricing of a Lumenis FemTouch treatment will vary depending on a few factors such as the number of treatment sessions desired and whether or not other procedures are included to provide more comprehensive results.
