Dr. Anu Bajaj, M.D.
Dr. Anureet Bajaj is a highly respected plastic surgeon who is widely recognized for her breast surgery and reconstruction skills. Her cosmetic surgery expertise also includes facial surgery, body sculpting, and minimally invasive procedures.
In 2007, she returned home to Oklahoma City to join her father in the practice of plastic surgery. Prior to returning home to Oklahoma City, Dr. Bajaj previously served as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati, as well as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr. Bajaj, with her father at her side, developed a microvascular breast reconstruction program at SSM St. Anthony Hospital in 2007. For over 10 years, she was one of the few plastic surgeons who performed breast reconstruction using the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap in Oklahoma.
“For over 10 years, we were the only surgeons in the state who routinely performed DIEP flap breast reconstruction. When I moved to OKC, most surgeons told me I wouldn’t be able to perform DIEP flaps in private practice because they were too time-intensive and complicated. However, we were able to establish a program and perform them at St. Anthony Hospital, becoming a high-volume center.”
“I love microvascular surgery, and that’s the reason I became a plastic surgeon,” she adds. In 2014, she relocated Bajaj Plastic Surgery to a new custom-built office building with an accredited office-based operating room.
Dr. Bajaj and her team provide a warm, welcoming office environment that builds trust and confidence in our patients. Our caring team creates an atmosphere that fosters lasting life-long relationships. We’ll guide you throughout your journey and take care of you from consult to recovery.
Words That Describe Our Office
At your consultation, you’ll discover a fun and exciting environment. Our goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable sharing your story, goals, and dreams.
“I am passionate about listening to my patients and hearing their stories. Their stories help to guide me — I want to develop a unique treatment plan with every one of my patients.”
Dr. Bajaj and her team realize that each patient has unique motivations and has a story to tell. ‘Understanding our patients’ stories is essential to establishing a surgeon-patient relationship bound by trust and respect,” she says.
“Life is about the relationships we build – and what I enjoy about my patients is those relationships.”
Dr. Bajaj also believes that her role is to be a life-long resource for her patients. She is passionate about educating her patients about the ways in which they can maintain their surgical results.
Setting Goals and Expectations With Patients
Dr. Bajaj builds trust and a lasting connection with her patients because she can relate to them. Dr. Bajaj has received treatments and procedures herself, so she understands her services from a patient and surgeon standpoint. Dr. Bajaj’s wide-spanning experience helps patients form their personal goals.
“As a woman, I do have the advantage that I have had procedures performed on myself so that I understand the process on a personal level,” she says. “For example, I have had liposuction, breast augmentation, Botox, fillers, and laser hair removal.”
Our office staff is attentive and understanding of our patient’s needs.
Using Her Knowledge of Anatomy
Getting to know our patients’ lives and needs necessitates knowing their bodies. Dr. Bajaj offers patients personalized care and builds relationships with a complete understanding of her patients’ anatomy.
“To be a great aesthetic or cosmetic surgeon, you have to be a good reconstructive surgeon as well,” Dr. Bajaj says. “If you can rebuild a face after cancer or trauma using reconstructive practices, you understand the anatomy and what is necessary to improve the appearance of the face with either surgery or non-surgical options.”
Her training in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery allows her to do a wide variety of procedures. Her specialties include micro-vascular breast reconstruction, including DIEP flaps (she is one of the very few who performs this surgery in Oklahoma); breast reduction; implant removal; implant revision; tummy tucks; facial and eye rejuvenation; and body lifts after weight loss. Her foundation and extensive training in reconstructive surgery has given her the ability to analyze and correct even the most challenging aesthetic problems.
Thoughtful Plastic Surgery
Dr. Bajaj believes in ‘thoughtful plastic surgery.’ She takes great care to think about every aspect of her patients’ journey—from beginning to end—and continually thinks of ways to make their journeys exciting and comfortable.
New patients immediately fall in love with our accommodating office when they come in for a consultation. Consultations include an in-depth and meaningful conversation, education, expectations, a physical examination, and the start of a lasting relationship. Dr. Bajaj wants to know each patients’ goals and lifestyle so she can form a personalized plan to satisfy their desires. Once you choose to have surgery, she strives to ensure that the experience is smooth so that you, the patient, can focus on the process of recovery and living your life.
For these reasons, she has incorporated ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) protocols into her practice and tries to think of the little things – providing her patients with their post-operative garments and scar cream, for example.
A Surgeon Inspired by Art
Dr. Bajaj adorns her office walls with some art pieces of her own. Her art gives her a chance to be creative in a different way from her practice, although she says there’s a link between the two, given that she must be observant to create beauty. “I enjoy oil painting. Many of my works are figure paintings,” Dr. Bajaj says. “I also enjoy writing and believe there is great beauty in the human body and spirit.”
Dr. Bajaj is also an avid runner and has completed over 30 marathons. As a marathon runner, she finds a sense of peace and clarity that helps her to prepare for the day ahead. Running has also given her the discipline to stay focused both on her patients and during surgery. Dr. Bajaj is a recognized leader in the field of plastic surgery and was selected as a Visiting Professor for the Plastic Surgery Foundation in 2016.
Dr. Bajaj is a highly active member of the plastic surgery community. She has published numerous articles in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and other medical periodicals; presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting and the Plastic Surgery Research Council, and has been an invited speaker for the Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgery, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, and other groups.
She has completed the Leadership Academy sponsored by the Oklahoma County Medical Society as well as the Pathways to Leadership program sponsored by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Bajaj values her relationships with other plastic surgeons across the country, which helps to keep her at the forefron of the latest developments in the field. Currently, she is also on the Editorial Board of Plastic Surgery – Global Open and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
