If your chin bothers you or you want to achieve balanced facial features, chin surgery at Bajaj Plastic Surgery may be right for you. Chin surgery, also known as chin augmentation, helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you can feel better about the way you look. Oklahoma City plastic surgeon, Dr. Anu Bajaj, performs chin surgery to reshape the chin and help you achieve facial proportion.
Benefits of Chin Surgery
- Achieving a harmonious balance to your face by making your chin proportional to other facial features.
- Strengthening the appearance of a receding chin.
- Improving a mildly weak chin, if you have normal jaw function.
- Achieving a stronger chin for someone who has used temporary soft tissue fillers in the past.
For your chin surgery procedure you will be given anesthesia to keep you comfortable through the medical procedure. Dr. Bajaj will make an incision and place a pocket, designed to accommodate the implant, directly over the lower jawbone. Dr. Bajaj will then place silicone implants through a small incision under the chin. When other materials are used, such as Medpor, an incision is also made in the mouth. Dr. Bajaj will then secure the chin implant where appropriate and close the incision.
Usually the chin surgery will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete, unless other procedures are being performed in the surgery. Dr. Bajaj will often apply tape to the skin to help hold the implant in place during the post-surgery swelling period.
A facial implant surgery is often used to enhance projection of the chin.
The recovery time after a chin surgery depends on the type of surgery and the size of the incision Dr. Bajaj performs.
Generally, after a chin surgery alone, you will be active around the house the evening after surgery—you may just have a sore or “asleep” lip (similar to a dentist visit).
You can anticipate your chin to be mildly sore and swollen for a couple days and Dr. Bajaj will provide appropriate prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medications. Sometimes sutures will need to be removed 4- to 7-days after the surgery, depending on what the surgery entails.
