Portrait of happy couple embracing

Love is in the air and what better way to show that special someone how much you care for them than by helping them get the cosmetic procedure or treatment that’s been on their wish list?

The new year brings new opportunities for partners to take adventures together, to make their relationships stronger, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Many couples are even adding cosmetic surgeries to their arsenal of adventures to embark on together.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), more people than ever are seeking tandem treatments with a friend or partner versus going it alone. Undergoing a cosmetic treatment or surgery with a loved one builds individual confidence and can also unify the couple on a shared journey.

How Can Plastic Surgery be a Gift?

In theory, giving anyone a gift is a wonderful gesture. But within the realm of plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments, there are some unique considerations. Before you give a gift of this nature, make sure your loved one has dropped the appropriate hints (maybe she’s talked about wanting the surgery you’re helping her undergo, or maybe she’s raved about a successful treatment her friend received; or she has a Pinterest board full of clues, like pinned promotions from a local plastic surgery office; or maybe she has already had a consultation).

A gift of cosmetic surgery works well for couples who know one another extremely well, care for each other deeply, and have talked openly with each other about wanting to make cosmetic improvements. If you’re still unsure of how to approach this kind of gift-giving, look to the ASPS, which surveyed couples concerning gifting a cosmetic surgery and the difficulties they face in that process. Ultimately, the association created a short “do’s and don’ts” list because many people like the idea of giving someone a surgery they’ve been wanting, but have a hard time getting it to them with love and tact.

That list includes tips like, “Never secretly arrange surgery for someone else. Your loved one should have a comprehensive consultation with the board-certified plastic surgeon of her or his choice.” Here’s why: Every surgery and every patient’s health and characteristics are different, so naturally, surgery prices will be different. What’s more? Certain health factors could preclude someone from undergoing a surgical procedure and you often won’t know this until that comprehensive consultation to determine if you or your loved one is a good candidate for the surgery. Instead of attempting to “give” surgery to your loved one, have a conversation about helping cover some of the costs as their gift.

Not only must the patient have a consultation with the surgeon, they should also make sure they feel comfortable with the surgeon, as this is a private and sometimes intimate procedure. Other options include minimally invasive treatments like miraDry and FemTouch.

His and Hers Plastic Surgery?

Of course, there’s the option of getting a gift card for services, but it would mean much more to tag along with your significant other. Being intentional, spending time together, and going on adventures together is what makes couples’ procedures more and more popular. Whether you’ve undergone a cosmetic procedure, or if you’re new to plastic surgery, it always feels better when someone supportive comes along for the ride. And in this case, your loved one would be by your side, supporting you and going through an experience just like you.

Sure, you give up the surprise aspect by looping in your significant other, but the benefit is big with this route. Like we mentioned earlier, buying someone a cosmetic procedure is very difficult to make a full surprise because of all the details that go into the surgery itself.

What is FemTouch?

This is a non-surgical vaginal health treatment that addresses issues such as vaginal dryness, vaginitis, or vulvovaginal atrophy. The procedure uses remodeling capacities of the fractional CO2 laser to help improve overall vaginal health and treat symptoms like stress urinary incontinence. How does it work? Studies have shown that FemTouch’s CO2 laser system operates by using light energy to trigger healing reactions in the skin. Learn more about this procedure by reading our blog post about the inner workings of the CO2 laser used for our FemTouch procedure.

What is miraDry?

This is an FDA-approved and clinically proven method that will reduce underarm sweat for men and women. This procedure works great for both genders because it’s versatile and can have effective results on any skin type and tone. How does it work? The Miradry system uses MiraWAVE energy to penetrate the skin and target the sweat and odor-causing glands. It reduces underarm sweat, odor, and hair, allowing you, and/or your loved one, to feel more confident.
