Tips for combating those extra seasonal pounds.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and many families across the country partook in a traditional turkey dinner. With the holiday season fast approaching, another one is in a lot of your futures. Not to mention all the festive treats that come with the season; yule logs, egg nog, and lots and lots of chocolate.

It’s no surprise that shedding those extra holiday pounds ends up being on a few New Years Resolutions lists. For some, it can be difficult to lose that extra weight gained at the end of the year. To avoid winding up with a belly like a bowl full of jelly, take heed of this seasonal weight control advice.

While a lax attitude towards indulging in sweets and hearty meals is a factor, it’s not just what we eat that can lead to unwanted weight gain – there’s a psychological element as well. Many people find the holidays stressful, for reasons including family strife and financial strain tied to gift-giving. Some of us deal with stress by eating more, and with a plethora of goodies around, most people won’t go with the salad. If you experience a lot of excess stress during the holidays, try to be conscious of your intake, and try and find other avenues for stress relief, such as exercise.

Of course, the other problem is simply that many of us see the holidays as an excuse to indulge. “It’s a special occasion; it’s only once a year,” we might say to ourselves. But those “once a year” add up in the end, and you’re looking at some significant weight gain. If you’re really serious about not gaining any extra pounds, as much as it might pain you to do so, you may just have to pass on that extra glass of egg nog. Also, don’t view the holidays as an excuse to pass up doing your usual exercise routine – diligence is the key!

If you find you’re unable to lose the extra weight even after returning to your normal routine after the decorations have been put away for another year, procedures such as liposuction or a tummy tuck may be an option. Contact your plastic surgeon’s office for a consultation – they will be able to advise you on your best course of action, and if indeed plastic surgery is your best option.
