Breast Reduction in Oklahoma City

Reduction Mammoplasty

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is ideal for women who desire a proportional breast size. The procedure can alleviate discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

Breast Reduction Surgery is Best For:

  • Alleviating pain associated with large breasts
  • Providing breast size that’s in proportion with the body
  • Treating skin rashes, back pain, neck pain, and self-image issues associated with large breast size.

What to Expect: You will have a personal consultation with Dr. Bajaj to determine whether breast reduction surgery will achieve the results you desire.

On the day of surgery, Dr. Bajaj will give you the appropriate anesthesia and/or intravenous sedation to keep you comfortable through your medical procedure. There are three incision options for a breast reduction surgery, and Dr. Bajaj will choose the best one for you:

  • A circular pattern around the areola
  • A keyhole-shaped pattern with an incision around the areola and vertically down the bottom of the breast.
  • An anchor-shaped incision pattern near the base of the breast.

After the incision is made, the nipple—which remains connected to the original nerve and blood supply—is repositioned, and the areola is reduced around the perimeter, if necessary. At this point, the underlying breast tissue is reduced, lifted and shaped. After closing the incisions, the patient has smaller and more youthful looking breasts.

Recovery:

Dr. Bajaj and our medical staff will continue to monitor you after your breast reduction surgery and will prescribe the appropriate medications to keep you comfortable. Dressings and bandages will be checked and an elastic bandage or support bra may also be worn to reduce swelling and support your breasts. Sometimes a small tube is temporarily placed under the skin to drain excess fluid.

You’ll probably need to take it easy for a few days due to some soreness and swelling that lasts for a few weeks. Dr. Bajaj will give you specific instructions on how to care for your breasts following surgery. You will also have a follow-up apt within a couple weeks to make sure everything is healing properly. Most patients return to work and participate in normal activities within two to three weeks of breast reduction surgery.
